At the end of January, Iscte hosted a training school as part of the Future Youth Information for Rural areas project (FYI-R, project IG18213), an initiative funded through a COST Innovators Grant (COST Association). The event brought together around 30 participants from 14 countries and focused on the application of predictive methods to anticipate trends affecting young people in rural areas, covering areas such as mobility, education, employment and entrepreneurship.

The training school resulted in the development of a methodological guide for the creation of a predictive tool. According to Francisco Simões, the lead researcher on the project, “this tool will now be tested with the support of young people and institutions in rural areas of the countries involved in the project, providing a basis for policies and services that are better adjusted to the future needs of rural youth”.
The FYI-R project, which involves partners from 16 countries, aims to tackle the challenges faced by young people in rural areas in Europe, namely limited employment opportunities and reduced access to social services. Building on the work of COST Action 18213 - Rural NEET Youth Network - and the European Rural Youth Observatory (EURYO), the project aims to mitigate these problems by creating a set of strategic prediction tools to inform forward-looking policies.
